OR follow these written instructions:

To run Shimeji you'll need Java! Get it at java.com, and make sure you have the 32-bit version.

Extract everything into a directory and then run the Shimeji-ee.jar file.

You can choose the Shimeji you want to use as well as configure settings for the Shimeji by right-clicking on the little icon in your taskbar systray.

Does Java have to be downloaded from the Java site or are other sites like... uhm.. idk, Chip.de okay to download it from?

While you could get it from elsewhere, I would recommend getting it from Java or Oracle.

I don't see an exe anywhere... the .jar just opens in winrar. Am I doing something wrong?

WinRar has been naughty! You will need to right click on the .jar file and go Open With and change the .jar file back to running with the Java Runtime.

Does anyone know how turn invisble shimejis visible? Cause the icons are there, but they aren't, and the only sign indicating was something throwing my loading screen to the side...

So this could be one of two things. Either you have 64-bit Java running, which means you need to go and get the 32-bit version, or they've disappeared under another window. If it's the latter, then just call a new one in from the icon in the system tray and they'll all pop up to front.

There is an app that allows you to have them on your phone but I have read that some of their shimeji's are stolen from artists. I would love it if there was an app that had an option to work with artists in selling their shimeji but share a percentage with the app creator to if the shimeji isn't set as free.

Hey everyone! I figured out some stuff and decided to share! :dummy:

---------

TL;DR: Here's a way to get Shimeji-ee to work with 64-bit Java: facad-3.tumblr.com/post/133760…

To get Japanese
 Shimeji to work:
  • Download the original Shimeji-ee 1.0.6 from this page.
  • Follow the instructions in the link I provided to get it to work with 64-bit Java.
  • Follow the instructions in the Shimeji-ee readme.txt under the "Basic Configuration" heading to add the Japanese image sets to the original Shimeji-ee.

---------

The problem I kept running into (which is now worked-around thanks to the 64-bit fix I found) was whenever I installed 64-bit Java
even if I already had 32-bit Java installed in a separate directorythe Shimeji-ee would turn invisible. I would have to uninstall both versions of Java and reinstall only the 32-bit version for the Shimeji-ee to work; the instant I installed 64-bit Java, they'd disappear again. I'm not sure if this is something Kilkakon would be able to fix, but it'd be nice if they could. :)

You will need to select the Java runtime :) It's javaw.exe in Java's bin folder, inside Program Files (x86).

I'm having a problem, I have Java 32 but is doesn't seem to work or want to open the JAR file. I'm a doing something wrong or is Java not working for me? (I also have a windows 64 bit computer btw, that might have an effect on this problem too)

I'm not sure but I have figured it out. since my computer was a 64 bit, java automatically changed the java 34 bit to a 64. i had my friend help me to manually change the java back to a 34, and it worked.

I figured out the problem, since I have a 64 yet I downloaded a 32 java, my windows automatically changes it to a 65 java. In order to avoid this, you have to manually change it with windows administration. As for mac, I haven't figured out how that works, try looking up ways to be able to use java on a mac.
